Hot Sculpted Glass

Mike Hudson

Michael Hudson was born June 14, 1977. From a very early age, he always had the urge to create. Michael was introduced to Hot Glass in 1999 while attending Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and fell in love with the medium. In 2003, he received a BFA in Art & Design with a Specialization in Glass, and returned home to Louisville, KY; which was beginning to become a hotbed of activity in the Art Glass scene. He spent the next five years working in various studios in the area, as well as helping to start the University of Louisville’s glass program.

In 2007, Michael founded Hudson Glass, where he strives to bring nature and design elements together in creating one of a kind glass objects. For the next several years, Michael produced his line by renting time in other studios, but it became clear that if he wanted to grow his business, he would need a studio of his own. In seeking the advice of artists for whom he had previously worked, one of his former employers revealed that she was ready for a transition herself, but wasn’t sure what to do about both her loyal customers & employees, some of which had been with her for almost 20 years. Michael decided he was up to the challenge, and purchased Berni Enterprises in January 2014.

Michael’s goals have included improving on existing designs, growing his own body of work, and merging the two into a cohesive line of unique, hand-made glass items. Everything is designed, produced by hand, and finished by 5 artisans in a studio located just south of Louisville, KY. All of our glass pieces are truly Hand-Made in the Heartland of America, a feature that distinguishes our work from most glass that is available in today’s marketplace.
