About the Artist
Jan Jones is an Alabama mixed-media artist known for her imaginative papier-mâché sculptures. Combining paper, clay, paint, and found objects, she creates expressive figures inspired by coastal life, nature, and holiday traditions.
Her work includes herons, pelicans, angels, and old-world Father Christmas figures. Shells, driftwood, and other gathered materials become part of her sculptures, reflecting a lifelong appreciation for transforming everyday objects into art.
Jan developed her craft through elaborate Christmas displays for department stores and shopping malls. In 1993, she launched Opelika’s Victorian Front Porch Tour, a holiday tradition featuring her life-sized figures. Her work has also been exhibited at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope.
