William Thompson
Oil on Canvas
About the Artist
William “Bill” Thompson is an award-winning painter who works from a studio along the shores of Mobile Bay. After more than thirty years in aerospace engineering, including work on interplanetary spacecraft missions, he returned to his first love: art.
Thompson began exhibiting his oil paintings in 1995, winning Best of Show in the Eastern Shore Art Association’s Members Open competition. That same year, the Mobile Museum of Art purchased his work for its permanent collection. His achievements also include selection for the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies program and two Alabama State’s Choice Awards.
Working in oil and acrylic, Thompson uses palette knives, brushes, and his fingers to build richly textured surfaces. His paintings explore the emotion and rhythms of everyday life through composition, form, and color. His work is collected throughout the United States and abroad and is featured at Gallery by the Bay in Fairhope, Alabama.
